Dubai International Airport hosts free community walk for transit passengers
DXB becomes first non-mall venue to host Dubai Mallathon, offering transferring passengers a chance to stay active during their journey with free walking sessions at Terminal 3.

Dubai International Airport hosts free community walk for transit passengers
Dubai International Airport will host a community walking event on Friday, 14 August, as part of Dubai's citywide fitness initiative, giving transit passengers an opportunity to stay active while waiting for their connecting flights.
The event marks a significant milestone as DXB becomes the first non-mall venue to host the Dubai Mallathon since the programme launched. The first airport session took place on 7 August at Terminal 3 Departures, bringing together airport employees, members of the oneDXB community, and People of Determination.
Walking sessions and routes
Two walking sessions will run at Terminal 3, Concourse B, from 07:30 to 09:30am and 09:30 to 11:30am, allowing participants to choose a time that fits their travel schedule. Walkers can select between a 1.5km or 750m route through the terminal.
Part of Dubai Mallathon 2026
The initiative forms part of the broader Dubai Mallathon 2026, which runs from 15 June to 15 September and transforms six major shopping centres—Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre, Dubai Festival City Mall, Deira City Centre, and Dubai Hills Mall—into indoor fitness destinations daily from 6:00am to 10:00am.
The programme was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. The initiative aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and supports the UAE's Year of the Family 2026 objectives by encouraging families to engage in sporting activities together.
Beating the heat
Dubai experiences extreme temperatures during August, with daytime highs often exceeding 40-42°C and humidity levels reaching 60-80%, making outdoor exercise unsafe and creating the need for air-conditioned indoor fitness alternatives.
The inaugural Dubai Mallathon in 2025 attracted more than 40,000 participants and set a Guinness World Record with 1,392 participants in a single mall run event at Dubai Hills Mall on 30 August 2025.
World's busiest international airport
Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport is the world's largest airport terminal by floor space, spanning over 1,713,000 square metres, with Concourse B measuring 945 metres long. The airport handled a record 95.2 million passengers in 2025, the highest annual international traffic ever recorded by any airport, and has been named the world's busiest international airport for the 12th consecutive year.
How to participate
The event is organized in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council and features free participation with no registration required. Amenities include hydration stations and health awareness stations, with prizes including iPhones offered during weekend events.
Participants of all ages and abilities who are transiting through or waiting at DXB are invited to join the walk. Those interested can head to the Family Zone area by Gate B28 to participate in the walking event at the world's busiest international airport.
