Shoppers at The Galleria Al Maryah Island received an unexpected surprise on Saturday when UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan walked through the busy mall alongside a group of senior officials.
Videos shared widely on social media showed Sheikh Mohamed strolling through the shopping centre, which features over 400 stores and 100 dining options, making it one of Abu Dhabi's largest retail destinations. He was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Ali Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security.
About The Galleria Al Maryah Island
The mall, located on Al Maryah Island in the heart of the capital's central business district, is home to the Abu Dhabi Global Market financial centre, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and luxury hotels. Originally opened in 2013 as a luxury retail destination, The Galleria underwent a major expansion in September 2019, adding 250 new stores and broadening its appeal with more accessible brands alongside high-end retailers.

The mall visit came just days after Sheikh Mohamed was spotted walking through central London during a visit to the UK. On August 6, he met with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in Knightsbridge, with videos of their warm greeting widely shared on social media. Sheikh Mohammed had been seen around London since August 5, including in Knightsbridge and at local restaurants.

The UAE and UK maintain diplomatic relations dating back to 1971 when the Emirates was formed. The UAE is the UK's third-largest trading partner outside Europe after China and the US, with over 5,000 British businesses operating in the country.
