Kuwait's Interior Ministry has arrested an Egyptian national wanted in connection with the premeditated killing of two expatriate residents at a farm chalet in the Kabd area of Jahra Governorate, the country's largest administrative region accounting for 63 percent of Kuwait's land area.
The suspect was apprehended in the Ritqa area near the border fence while allegedly attempting to flee the country, following an intensive investigation that tracked his movements through Kuwait's border security surveillance systems, which can detect objects up to 20 kilometers away.
The incident
Police were alerted to an assault at a farm chalet in Kabd, an area located south of Jahra City and southwest of Kuwait's capital, known primarily as a hub for livestock farms and popular for camping during winter months. Security teams arriving at the scene discovered two residents who had been fatally stabbed, while two other individuals sustained injuries in the attack.
Investigators launched a probe to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify the person responsible. A weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered near the scene. Through evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified the suspect and, in coordination with the General Department of Border Security, tracked him to the Ritqa border area.
Declining violent crime rates
The arrest comes during a period of declining violent crime in Kuwait. According to the Justice Minister, violent crime cases fell 53.2 percent during the first half of 2026, dropping from 607 cases to 284 cases compared to the same period in 2025. Cases of premeditated murder and attempted murder specifically declined 7.7 percent, from 26 cases to 24 cases during the same timeframe.
The Egyptian community represents the second-largest expatriate population in Kuwait, with approximately 657,280 members as of 2024, accounting for roughly 13 percent of Kuwait's total population and 19 percent of all expatriates in the country.
Legal reforms
Kuwait has strengthened its legal framework against violent crimes through legislative reforms introduced in 2025 and 2026, which tightened penalties for violent offenses, criminalized possession of bladed weapons in public without legitimate justification, and enacted new domestic violence protection measures.
The suspect was referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings. The Interior Ministry provided no further details about the motive behind the attack or the identities of the victims and injured parties.
